Cheesy Pigs in a Blanket

     

Pigs in a Blanket are always a hit and these cheesy pigs are no exception!  Making these from scratch may seem silly when they can just be bought in the frozen aisle, but they really are simple to put together.  In fact, these can be frozen before being baked and kept on hand for the next time you need them!  Making them yourself is also significantly less expensive than buying pre-made pigs in a blanket. So try out this easy and delicious recipe for your next holiday gathering!

Ingredients:

1 can Pillsbury crescent roll dough

1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, pepper jack, etc)

24 mini hot dogs (cocktail wieners)

Yields 24 

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

Unroll the dough onto a large cutting board.

Using a pizza wheel, roll over the precut lines on the dough to be sure its fully cut through.  (These pictures are from a half sheet of dough)  

Cut each triangle into 3 triangles.
  

Sprinkle the cheese evenly over the dough and slightly press it down using your hands.  

Place a dog at the wider part of the triangle and roll it up.  Repeat this with the rest of the triangles.    

At this point you could freeze the pigs.  Spread them out on wax or parchment paper and freeze for about an hour.  Then they can be transferred to a freezer safe plastic bag.

If you’re ready to eat, place the pigs on a parchment lined baking sheet.   

Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.  Enjoy!
